Nigerian striker Godspower Ighodaro is still pushing for a move to Kaizer Chiefs, but his future remains uncertain due to contract and registration issues.

The 24-year-old, who is still under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns until 2026, has been left out of the club’s squad for the new season and is currently training alone. Sources say Chiefs’ interest has strengthened his desire to leave, but negotiations have been slow.

Chiefs, led by coach Nasreddine Nabi, are still trying to find a way to sign him before the transfer window closes. One key factor is Ighodaro’s newly acquired South African permanent residency, which would allow Chiefs to register him as a local player instead of using a foreign-player slot.

However, Sundowns could also use his residency status to their advantage by keeping him as a local player. Instead of letting him leave for free, they may now demand a transfer fee, making the deal more difficult for Chiefs.

Nabi has confirmed that Ighodaro is still a target but admitted the club must wait for paperwork to be finalized. He also said Chiefs are looking at other striker options if a deal cannot be done.

Other PSL clubs and foreign teams are watching the situation, weighing whether to make an offer now or wait until his contract nears its end. For Ighodaro, the next few weeks will be crucial in determining where he plays next.
