MK Party’s Dali Mpofu Hits Back at ANC Over Zuma’s Western Sahara Comments

Prominent lawyer and senior MK Party member Dali Mpofu has accused the ANC of using foreign policy disputes to distract from South Africa’s domestic crises. This comes after the ANC strongly condemned former President Jacob Zuma for supporting Morocco’s position on Western Sahara.

The ANC criticized Zuma for breaking with South Africa’s long-standing support for Western Sahara’s independence movement. But Mpofu dismissed the party’s outrage as a political tactic.

“Don’t be fooled by the ANC’s deflection tactics,” Mpofu said in a social media post. “They’re trying to shift focus from the real problems at home.” He accused the ANC of losing moral authority and using foreign policy debates to cover up governance failures.

Will Banyana Banyana be recalled from WAFCON by Mbalula & Mokonyane?

Will Bafana go to AFCON in December?

If not, will they & the fans be allowed to fly the South African flag in Morocco?🤷🏾‍♂️

Don’t be easily fooled by ANCs cheap deflection tactics from the burning issues at home! https://t.co/TXk5kiyj1T

Zuma’s recent remarks, made during a visit to Morocco, shocked activists who support the ANC’s traditional stance on Western Sahara and Palestine. A video showed him alongside Moroccan officials, endorsing their autonomy plan for the disputed territory.

However, Mpofu argued the backlash was exaggerated. “The ANC has no room to talk about principles when they’ve failed on land reform, jobs, and basic services,” he said.

The MK Party, formed by Zuma after his fallout with the ANC, has been gaining support among disillusioned voters. Political analysts say the growing war of words signals rising tensions between the ruling party and its former members.

So far, the ANC has not responded to Mpofu’s latest comments. But with elections looming, the clash highlights deeper divisions within South Africa’s political landscape.
