Police have arrested a well-known businessman in connection with the killing of musician and entrepreneur Oupa John Sefoka, widely known as DJ Sumbody. The suspect, Katiso “KT” Molefe, was taken into custody at his Sandton home on Monday, bringing renewed attention to a case that had stalled since the shocking murder.
Molefe is already facing charges in a separate murder case involving the 2023 killing of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart. He was arrested alongside three alleged hitmen—Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana, and Tlego Floyd Mabusela—and they are currently awaiting trial.
Investigators have uncovered further links between the suspects. Kekana and Mabusela are also connected to a failed assassination attempt on actress and socialite Tebogo Thobejane, allegedly orchestrated by her ex-partner, businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
A police source involved in the case said the crimes suggest an organized criminal network at work.
DJ Sumbody was shot dead in November 2022 while on his way to a performance in Johannesburg. The killing sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, sparking demands for justice. Authorities believe this arrest could help uncover more details about the crime.
Police say further arrests are possible as the investigation reveals connections between multiple violent crimes.
