Advocate Claims Kelly Khumalo Accidentally Shot Senzo Meyiwa, Disputes Robbery Story

Advocate Malesela Teffo has made new claims about the 2014 death of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, stating that the footballer was shot by singer Kelly Khumalo at home—not during a robbery. His remarks on a recent episode of *Podcast and Chill with MacG* have reignited public debate over the unsolved case.

Meyiwa was fatally shot on October 26, 2014, at Khumalo’s family home in Vosloorus. While police initially described the incident as a botched robbery, Teffo—who previously represented four of the five men now on trial—claims the official version is false.

During the podcast, Teffo alleged that Khumalo accidentally shot Meyiwa during an argument. He further accused her family, including her mother and sister, of conspiring to cover up the incident by fabricating a robbery story. According to Teffo, those present altered the crime scene to mislead investigators.

These claims are not entirely new, as Teffo had made similar statements during his involvement in the trial. His latest comments come amid growing public frustration over delays in the high-profile case.

Khumalo has repeatedly denied any involvement in Meyiwa’s death, and her lawyers have dismissed Teffo’s allegations as false and defamatory. She has never been formally charged, despite lingering public suspicion.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) continues to prosecute the five accused, maintaining that evidence points to a planned home invasion. The trial, which has faced multiple delays, remains ongoing in the Pretoria High Court.

The South African Police Service has not yet responded to Teffo’s latest claims. Meanwhile, Meyiwa’s family continues to seek answers, with his brother, Sifiso Meyiwa, expressing dissatisfaction with the investigation and believing the truth has been concealed.

As the trial proceeds, Teffo’s controversial statements add another layer of complexity to a case that has gripped South Africa for nearly a decade.
