The Presidency has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation tonight regarding serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against politicians and senior police officials.
The allegations, made a week ago, accuse Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of involvement in corrupt activities with high-profile individuals. Since then, Mkhwanazi’s security has been increased due to the sensitive nature of the claims.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya stated that President Ramaphosa has been closely following the matter and will speak to the public at 19:00 on July 13 after multiple consultations.
Ramaphosa was attending the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro when Mkhwanazi first made the allegations. At the end of the summit, the President briefly commented on the issue, calling it a serious matter that impacts national security and the rule of law.
“This is not something we can ignore. It concerns the safety of our people and upholding the law. Those found guilty must face consequences as per our constitution and legal system,” Ramaphosa said.
