South African actress and businesswoman Tebogo Thobejane has denied playing any role in the legal troubles of her former partner, businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who is facing serious criminal charges.
Matlala was arrested in May 2025 in connection with a 2023 Sandton nightclub shooting, where he allegedly attempted to kill another individual. The case has drawn significant attention due to Matlala’s controversial business dealings and past relationship with Thobejane.
In a public statement on July 9, Thobejane shut down rumors that she had cooperated with investigators.
“I never snitched,” she said, clarifying that she is not a witness in the case and has no involvement in the legal proceedings. She also asked for privacy, stating that she wants to move on from the situation.
This isn’t the first time Thobejane has addressed the matter. Shortly after Matlala’s arrest, she asked the public and media to respect her need for privacy while she deals with the fallout.
Matlala remains in custody as the case continues. His business dealings, including a R360 million government tender linked to his company, Medicare24, have also faced scrutiny in recent months.
