DA Demands Removal of Ministers, Gives Ramaphosa 48-Hour Ultimatum

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to dismiss Deputy Trade Minister Andrew Whitfield and has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the removal of three other officials.

DA leader John Steenhuisen called for the immediate firing of Public Works Deputy Minister Thembi Simelane, Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Nobuhle Nkabane, and Human Settlements Deputy Minister David Mahlobo. He warned of “serious consequences for South Africa” if the president fails to act.

The DA’s demand follows Whitfield’s removal, which the party claims was politically motivated. Steenhuisen accused the ANC of protecting underperforming officials while targeting opposition figures.

The presidency has not yet responded to the ultimatum. Political analysts suggest the move escalates tensions between the DA and ANC amid ongoing governance challenges.

If Ramaphosa does not comply, the DA has vowed to take further action, though specifics remain unclear. The ultimatum adds pressure on the president as public frustration grows over corruption and service delivery failures.
