Political analyst Bhekisisa Mncube has sharply criticized former MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu, calling him “a total failure as a politician” following his exclusion from the party’s parliamentary list.

Shivambu, who was removed from his leadership position earlier this month, had been expected to secure a parliamentary seat. However, his name was notably absent when the MK Party announced its representatives on Saturday.

Mncube, speaking to Newzroom Afrika, argued that Shivambu has wasted multiple leadership opportunities. “Fraud Shivambu, as he’s called in some circles, squandered his political capital when he left the EFF for the MK Party—a party held together by little more than hope and tape,” Mncube said.

The analyst suggested Shivambu’s career has been propped up by former President Jacob Zuma’s influence, adding: “We all knew this was the beginning of the end for him. He lacks the charisma that defines successful politicians.”

Despite the setback, Shivambu has ruled out leaving the MK Party or forming a new political movement. Instead, he plans to consult with community leaders about his next steps.

In a video address on Sunday, Shivambu thanked supporters for their messages of solidarity following his removal. “The overwhelming response shows there’s a hunger for alternative leadership,” he said, hinting at broader consultations ahead.

The Citizen has reached out to Shivambu for comment, but no response had been received at the time of publication.

The developments mark another twist in Shivambu’s turbulent political journey, which began in the EFF before his controversial shift to the MK Party. With his parliamentary ambitions dashed, analysts question whether he can remain relevant in South Africa’s shifting political landscape.
