In a temporary leadership transition, North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi has designated Finance MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi as Acting Premier from 24 May to 8 June 2025.
The appointment, confirmed by the Office of the Premier, follows Mokgosi’s planned leave of absence and adheres to constitutional provisions allowing a Premier to delegate responsibilities during such periods.
Mosenogi, a respected figure in provincial governance, brings extensive experience from her role as Finance MEC, where she has spearheaded fiscal reforms and economic recovery initiatives. Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening financial management and service delivery in the province.
Premier Mokgosi expressed confidence in Mosenogi’s ability to steer the province during his absence, stating, *”MEC Mosenogi has consistently shown strong leadership and commitment to good governance. I trust her to maintain stability and advance our provincial priorities.”*
The acting premiership comes at a critical time for the North West, which faces challenges such as infrastructure development, job creation, and public service improvements. Mosenogi’s interim leadership is expected to ensure continuity in key government programs.
In response to her appointment, Mosenogi said, *”I am honored by this responsibility and will work with the Executive Council to uphold service delivery and governance standards.”*
Her term as Acting Premier will conclude on 8 June 2025, upon Mokgosi’s return. The transition has been welcomed as a demonstration of both constitutional adherence and confidence in the province’s leadership structures.
