Media personality Minnie Dlamini has addressed the recent apology from controversial podcaster MacG Mukwevho, which was shared on his YouTube show Podcast and Chill. The apology, aired on Monday, 12 May, followed MacG being summoned to Parliament over allegations of using misogynistic and offensive language on his platform.

Minnie Dlamini’s Statement

MacG publicly expressed regret for his comments about Dlamini, which were made after her separation from cosmetic surgeon Dr. Brian Monaisa. His remarks had sparked widespread backlash on social media, with many condemning his remarks as sexist and disrespectful toward women in the media industry.

On Tuesday, 13 May, Dlamini responded with a formal statement posted on her Instagram. The actress and TV host confirmed that she had received an official apology from Podcast and Chill’s legal team.

“I’ve never made any negative comments about the podcaster in the past,” Dlamini stated. “All I did was defend the dignity and integrity of a fellow woman in the industry against vile and objectifying remarks about her.”

Her response has been widely praised for its maturity and poise. She also stressed the importance of accountability in public discourse, particularly in media spaces where women often face demeaning commentary.

Broader Context and Public Reaction

MacG’s apology comes amid increasing scrutiny of online content creators in South Africa. His summons to Parliament followed multiple complaints from watchdog groups and the public regarding Podcast and Chill’s content, which has faced criticism for sexist, homophobic, and offensive remarks in the past.

Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) were divided. Some users rejected MacG’s apology outright, while others acknowledged his effort to take responsibility.

One user, @mutssy_Salani, wrote, “Apology not accepted! He should keep his lame apology to himself.”

However, others, like @DisaRoboro, took a more balanced view: “It’s good to see MacG taking accountability and apologizing publicly. The comments he made about Minnie were unacceptable, and it’s a step in the right direction for him to address it on his platform. Hopefully, this apology leads to genuine change.”

Moving Forward

The incident has reignited discussions about media ethics, accountability, and the treatment of women in the public eye. While it remains to be seen whether MacG’s apology will result in lasting changes to his content, Dlamini’s response has reinforced the importance of dignity and respect in public discourse.
