The ANC and DA recently concluded a private meeting in Johannesburg to discuss ongoing tensions within the Government of National Unity, disagreements over national budget plans, and disputes regarding VAT. Despite public interest, neither party disclosed specific details about the discussions, choosing instead to keep the meeting’s agenda private.

Following the meeting, the DA described the talks as “forthright and constructive,” suggesting that the discussions were open and productive. While they did not reveal any agreements or unresolved issues, their statement indicated optimism about the dialogue.

The ANC also commented, emphasizing that while they are engaging in discussions with the DA, they remain firm in their principles. The party stated it “won’t compromise its core values,” signaling a willingness to cooperate without abandoning its foundational beliefs.

The meeting was significant due to both parties’ major roles in national politics. The Government of National Unity’s stability, along with debates over fiscal policies and VAT, has wide-reaching implications for the public. However, with no concrete announcements, the outcome remains unclear.

For now, the public can only rely on the limited statements from both sides. The DA highlighted the talks as honest and useful, while the ANC reaffirmed its commitment to its values. Observers will be watching to see if further discussions lead to resolutions or if differences persist.
