The South African entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of acclaimed actor Don Mlangeni Nawa. The 65-year-old performer’s family confirmed his passing in a statement released on Wednesday morning.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Don Mlangeni Nawa,” the family statement read. “He was the cornerstone of our family – a devoted father, brother and friend. To his fans and colleagues, he was a talented artist whose performances brought light to every production he was part of.”

The family has not disclosed the cause of death and has asked for privacy during this difficult time. “We will share information about memorial and funeral arrangements at the appropriate time,” they added.

News of Nawa’s passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across social media, with fellow actors, directors and fans paying tribute to his decades-long contribution to South African theater and television. The veteran performer was known for his powerful stage presence and memorable screen roles that earned him widespread respect in the entertainment industry.

Nawa’s death marks the loss of one of South Africa’s most recognizable acting talents, leaving behind a legacy that influenced generations of performers. As tributes continue to pour in, the arts community remembers him not just for his professional achievements, but for his mentorship of younger actors and his commitment to developing South Africa’s creative sector.

The family has expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received and reiterated their request for understanding as they process their loss. Industry colleagues are expected to organize commemorative events to honor Nawa’s significant contributions to South African arts and culture.
