The high-profile murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is set to continue at the Pretoria High Court on Monday after a two-month adjournment. The break was granted to allow defense attorney Charles Mnisi additional time to prepare for his cross-examination of Brigadier Bongani Gininda, the lead investigator in the case.

The trial, which has gripped South Africa for years, was postponed in May to ensure Mnisi could thoroughly review the evidence and investigative processes before questioning Gininda. The brigadier’s testimony is considered crucial, as it may shed light on key aspects of the police investigation into the 2014 killing of the beloved soccer star.

Watch Live:

Meyiwa was fatally shot in what was initially reported as a botched robbery at the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo. The case has seen numerous delays and twists over the past decade, with five men currently on trial for the murder.

Legal analysts suggest the upcoming cross-examination could prove pivotal, as the defense is expected to scrutinize the police investigation’s handling of evidence and witness statements. The resumption comes amid persistent public interest and calls for justice for the late Orlando Pirates and national team goalkeeper.

The Pretoria High Court is expected to hear testimony from multiple witnesses in the coming weeks as the trial enters what may be its final phases. The Meyiwa family and supporters continue to seek closure nearly ten years after the tragic incident that shocked the nation.

Monday’s proceedings will mark another critical chapter in South Africa’s most watched criminal case, as the justice system works to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of one of the country’s sporting icons.
