Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla Faces Disciplinary Action from MK Party Amid Internal Strife

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, is facing disciplinary action from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party following a string of controversies that have placed her at the center of internal tensions.

Her troubles come amid ongoing legal battles stemming from the July 2021 riots, which led to over 300 deaths. In January 2025, she was formally charged with inciting violence, with prosecutors alleging that her social media posts fueled the unrest that erupted after her father’s arrest for defying a court order. She pleaded not guilty and was released on a warning, with her next court appearance scheduled for March.

Beyond her legal woes, Zuma-Sambudla has found herself entangled in internal party disputes, particularly after directing social media attacks at MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu. Despite issuing a public apology, her sincerity has been questioned, as she notably excluded key figures like Shivambu from her statements.

The MK Party, which was founded in December 2023 and is led by former President Zuma, has been battling internal divisions. While some members stand by Zuma-Sambudla, others view her actions as a destabilizing force within the party.

With tensions escalating, the disciplinary process against Zuma-Sambudla could have significant implications for her political future and the unity of the MK Party. Observers are closely watching how this power struggle unfolds in the coming weeks.
