A man from Katlehong alleges that he is drowning in debt and facing emotional distress after lending a significant sum of money to media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye in October last year.
Speaking on condition of anonymity for safety reasons, the man claims he lent the TV star the money under the agreement that it would be repaid within three months. However, nearly five months past the deadline, he says Jub Jub has yet to honor the repayment.
“I trusted him because of his public profile and genuinely believed he would pay me back on time,” he said. “I thought I was helping someone in need, so I used my savings and even borrowed money from others to assist him.”
Now, he says his repeated attempts to contact Jub Jub have been ignored. “My calls and messages go unanswered. I don’t know what else to do.”
The financial strain has taken a toll on him, with creditors demanding repayment and his stress levels reaching a breaking point. “I can’t sleep at night. This is affecting my health and my family. The people I borrowed from want their money, and I have nothing to give them.”
Despite multiple attempts to obtain a response from Jub Jub or his management, they have not provided a statement regarding the allegations.
Legal expert Thabo Molefe advises that in such cases, lenders have the right to pursue legal action. “If there is evidence of the loan agreement, whether verbal or written, the matter can be taken to small claims court or pursued through civil litigation,” Molefe explained.
Jub Jub, best known as the host of Uyajola 9/9, remains a controversial yet prominent figure in South African entertainment, having faced legal troubles in the past.
The Katlehong man hopes that by bringing his situation to the public’s attention, he will pressure Jub Jub into settling the debt. “I just want what is rightfully mine. I helped him, and now I’m suffering.”
