Durban – A growing controversy is unfolding within the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party as renowned traditional healer and party member Bhongolethu “Dr. Khehlelezi” Mzozo questions alleged barriers preventing ordinary members from meeting former President Jacob Zuma directly.

Dr. Khehlelezi, a well-known figure in Durban, took to social media to demand clarity on claims that Zuma—who serves as the face of the MK Party—is no longer accessible for one-on-one engagements with grassroots supporters. His concerns have sparked debate within party ranks, with some members wondering if this marks a shift in Zuma’s approach to internal party affairs.

Concerns Over Access to Zuma

Zuma has played a key role in mobilizing support for the MK Party, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, where he enjoys strong backing. However, if the alleged restrictions are true, they could create tensions among members who believe they should have direct access to their leader.

Dr. Khehlelezi’s concerns highlight growing anxieties among grassroots members who were instrumental in the party’s rapid rise. Many view Zuma as the unifying figure behind the movement, and any perceived distancing from supporters could be seen as a betrayal of their trust.

MK Party Yet to Respond

The MK Party leadership has yet to issue an official response to Dr. Khehlelezi’s claims, leaving uncertainty over whether these restrictions are a formal policy or a misunderstanding of internal arrangements.

Political analysts suggest that, if such measures exist, they may be intended to manage Zuma’s schedule and shield him from political or legal pressures. However, if not addressed properly, the issue could fuel internal dissatisfaction and weaken the party’s cohesion.

Dr. Khehlelezi’s call for answers signals a critical moment for the MK Party as it seeks to solidify its place in South African politics. Whether the party will clarify its position remains to be seen.
