Mbalula Issues Strong Warning to Trump: ‘Stay Out of South African Affairs’

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn sharp criticism from South Africa’s Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, who has firmly cautioned him against interfering in the country’s domestic affairs. Mbalula’s warning follows Trump’s recent social media remarks, where he criticized South Africa’s economic policies, governance, and land reform initiatives.

In a strongly worded statement, Mbalula reaffirmed South Africa’s sovereignty, asserting that the country is fully capable of managing its own challenges. “Mr. Trump’s unsolicited comments on our internal matters are both unwelcome and reflect a lack of understanding of our history and unique struggles,” he stated.

Mbalula emphasized the strength of South Africa’s democratic institutions, dismissing the notion that they require external validation. Trump’s remarks have sparked widespread debate, with many South Africans viewing them as overreach. Political analysts suggest his comments may be an attempt to sway international opinion, particularly among his conservative base.

The minister’s response echoes a broader stance within the ANC and the South African government: the nation’s sovereignty is non-negotiable. Mbalula also underscored the importance of respect in diplomatic relations, urging global leaders to engage with South Africa in a spirit of mutual understanding. “Every nation has the right to govern itself, and we expect the same respect in return,” he asserted.

This exchange has reignited discussions about the role of foreign figures in South Africa’s political discourse, particularly as the country approaches a critical election period. Mbalula’s firm stance reinforces South Africa’s commitment to self-governance and independence amidst ongoing political and economic challenges.
