Malema Slams Ramaphosa’s SONA2025 as “Empty Talk” with No Action on Job Creation or Corruption

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has delivered a scathing response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA2025), accusing the president of recycling old promises and failing to take meaningful action. Speaking outside Parliament shortly after the address, Malema dismissed the speech as “empty talk” and criticized Ramaphosa for what he called a lack of follow-through on key commitments.

“Ramaphosa is a man who just talks to pass time. He never follows up on his commitments,” Malema said in an impassioned response that quickly gained traction on social media. His remarks came as South Africans awaited solutions to the country’s worsening economic challenges, including unemployment, energy instability, and deepening inequality.

While Ramaphosa’s SONA2025 outlined plans to boost job creation, improve infrastructure, and tackle corruption, Malema was unconvinced. “We have heard these promises before,” he said. “Ramaphosa has mastered the art of repeating the same commitments year after year, yet nothing changes. He talks about job creation, but the unemployment rate remains sky-high. He talks about eradicating corruption, but the looting continues under his watch.”

Malema also criticized the government’s sluggish approach to economic recovery, noting that load shedding persists, businesses are collapsing, and poverty is deepening. “People are suffering,” he said. “Ramaphosa doesn’t seem to grasp the seriousness of the situation. Load shedding is killing our economy, and the president offers nothing but vague solutions.”

Call for Radical Economic Transformation

The EFF leader reiterated his party’s demand for structural changes to South Africa’s economy, calling for the nationalization of key industries such as banks, mines, and land. He argued that Ramaphosa’s current economic policies continue to serve the interests of an elite few while the majority of South Africans remain trapped in poverty.

“Real change will not come from foreign investments and cosmetic reforms,” Malema said. “We need radical economic transformation. South Africa’s wealth must benefit all its people, not just a privileged minority.”

Growing Political Divide

Malema’s fiery response underscores the growing political divide in South Africa and highlights the EFF’s position as a dominant voice in opposition to Ramaphosa’s administration. Political analysts believe that Malema’s critique resonates with a large segment of South Africans disillusioned by the government’s perceived lack of progress.

As the debate over SONA2025 continues, the spotlight remains on how the government plans to deliver on its promises amid growing calls for accountability and bold action to address the nation’s pressing challenges.
