President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) under the Government of National Unity (GNU) on Thursday evening. The highly anticipated speech will take place before a joint sitting of Parliament at Cape Town City Hall.

The address comes at a pivotal moment for South Africa, with many expecting Ramaphosa to outline plans to tackle pressing issues such as economic recovery, unemployment, energy security, and social stability. Citizens are also eager to hear how the GNU will manage its shared governance structure and implement key policy reforms in the months ahead.

Political analyst Susan Booysen shared her insights with eNCA, highlighting that Ramaphosa’s speech is likely to focus on balancing competing political interests while addressing the nation’s urgent challenges. “This SONA will be about demonstrating that the Government of National Unity can deliver on its promises and show leadership amid a complex political environment,” Booysen said.

In addition to economic priorities, the president is expected to touch on social welfare, crime reduction, and the ongoing energy crisis. With high expectations for decisive action, political observers will be watching closely to see if Ramaphosa can present a unifying vision for the country under this new political arrangement.

The State of the Nation Address will be broadcast live on various platforms, with analysts predicting that it could set the tone for the future of South Africa’s coalition-led governance.
