Malema Reassures on EFF Unity Amid Leadership Changes

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has addressed questions surrounding the role and influence of the party’s founding members amid growing speculation about internal dynamics. Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Malema emphasized that while the founders played a crucial role in establishing the EFF, the party’s strength lies in its collective commitment to its mission.

“There’s been unnecessary focus on individuals, but the EFF is bigger than any one person,” Malema stated. “The founders laid the groundwork, but this movement has grown into a collective force driven by the will of the people.”

His comments come at a time of significant changes within the EFF, marked by the departures of key figures such as Floyd Shivambu and Dali Mpofu. Malema was quick to dismiss suggestions that these exits signal leadership fragmentation or a decline in the influence of the party’s founders.

“Founders built the foundation, but the EFF thrives because of its people and their unwavering commitment to economic freedom,” he reiterated. “We value every individual, past and present, who aligns with our mission.”

Analysts have suggested Malema’s remarks aim to dispel fears of instability within the party, as the exit of prominent members has raised concerns about unity. However, Malema firmly rejected these claims, stressing that the EFF remains focused on its core mission to tackle land reform, unemployment, and inequality.

“The EFF is not about individuals but about values,” Malema asserted. “The journey to economic liberation depends not just on the efforts of leaders but on the collective strength of our members and supporters.”

Malema also highlighted the party’s achievements, such as increased representation in local councils and continued efforts to address systemic injustice.

As the EFF prepares for the 2026 elections, Malema’s message serves as a reassurance that the party’s vision and structure remain resilient, regardless of recent changes. Political observers are closely monitoring how the EFF navigates this period while maintaining its momentum and cohesion.
