African National Congress (ANC) stalwart Tony Yengeni has pushed back against claims that Julius Malema’s political career is faltering, calling such assertions a “terrible political mistake.” In a pointed social media response, Yengeni criticized a recent TimesLIVE article that described 2024 as one of the most challenging years for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, citing a loss of allies, strained relationships, and declining electoral support.

Dismissing the analysis as exaggerated, Yengeni wrote, “This is a gross exaggeration and distortion. Life generally is not a straight line, including political life. All life has ups and downs. Writing Julius off is not only premature, it is a terrible political mistake.”

The TimesLIVE piece detailed what it described as a major turning point in Malema’s career, noting a shrinking support base and internal tensions within the EFF. It characterized 2024 as a pivotal year for Malema, highlighting significant challenges that have raised questions about his political future.

This is a gross exaggeration & distortion..life generally is not a straight line.. including political life..All life has ups & downs..! Writing Julius off is not only premature..it is a terrible political mistake..!

Yengeni, however, emphasized Malema’s resilience and track record of overcoming adversity. Known for navigating controversies and setbacks, Malema has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to rebound and remain a formidable force in South African politics.

As leader of the EFF, Malema has built a reputation as both a polarizing and influential figure. While his party’s trajectory has experienced ups and downs, Yengeni’s comments underline the unpredictability of politics and the potential for Malema to recover and regain momentum.

The debate surrounding Malema’s future reflects the complexities of political survival in South Africa’s turbulent landscape. Yengeni’s warning serves as a reminder of the risks in underestimating Malema’s capacity to adapt and endure, underscoring his continued relevance as a key player in the country’s political arena.
