Podcaster and writer Ntsiki Mazwai recently shared WhatsApp screenshots purportedly containing an open letter addressed to EFF leader Julius Malema. The letter, allegedly written by Malema’s relative, Fortunate Tumelo Malema, raises serious concerns about his leadership and political direction. However, the letter has not been publicly verified.

Dated November 27, 2024, the letter begins with Fortunate Tumelo Malema expressing reluctance but a sense of duty to address Julius Malema’s alleged misconduct.

Key Criticisms Raised in the Letter

  1. Financial Irresponsibility:
    • The letter highlights Malema’s reported R34 million tax debt to SARS, suggesting that funds used to settle this debt could have supported initiatives such as student financial aid.
    • It criticizes Malema’s extravagant spending, including demolishing a R4 million house in Sandton to build a new one, while poverty persists in rural South Africa.
  2. Corruption Allegations:
    • Malema is accused of involvement in corrupt tender practices in Limpopo, allegedly exacerbating the province’s challenges.
  3. Leadership Style:
    • Tumelo Malema condemns Malema’s approach to politics, calling it disrespectful and divisive.
    • The letter criticizes Malema’s reliance on insults rather than constructive dialogue, claiming it undermines his credibility as a leader.

A Call for Reflection and Change

In the concluding remarks, Tumelo urges Julius Malema to reflect on his actions and reconsider his leadership approach. The letter emphasizes humility, accountability, and a commitment to South Africa’s well-being as essential traits for any leader.

Unverified Claims Stir Debate

While the authenticity of the letter remains unconfirmed, its contents have sparked debate about Malema’s leadership and the direction of the EFF. Critics argue that the issues raised mirror broader concerns about political accountability and responsible governance.

Malema has yet to respond to the allegations or address the open letter’s claims. Meanwhile, the public awaits clarity on whether the letter is genuine or part of a broader political narrative.
