  • A woman was arrested after attempting to rush the stage at the unveiling of a statue of Zulu King Shaka.
  • The quick response by security ensured the ceremony continued smoothly, with President Ramaphosa and King Misuzulu paying tribute to Shaka’s legacy.
  • Authorities are reviewing the incident, highlighting the importance of security at public events featuring high-profile figures.

In an unexpected disruption at the unveiling of a statue honoring Zulu King Shaka, a woman was arrested after attempting to rush the stage where President Cyril Ramaphosa and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini were seated. The ceremony, held on Tuesday in KwaDukuza, was a significant cultural event intended to celebrate the legacy of the legendary Zulu leader. Despite the brief interruption, security personnel acted swiftly, preventing the woman from reaching the stage and allowing the event to proceed.

The woman’s identity and motive have not been disclosed, though local police detained her immediately following the incident. Eyewitnesses described the scene as surprising but noted that the quick intervention ensured that proceedings were only briefly affected. “It was sudden, but security handled it well,” commented an attendee.

Despite the incident, the event successfully honored King Shaka’s legacy. President Ramaphosa and King Misuzulu addressed the crowd, paying tribute to Shaka’s historical role in uniting the Zulu kingdom in the 19th century. In his speech, Ramaphosa encouraged South Africans to embrace the unity and resilience that King Shaka represented, calling the statue a lasting symbol of pride for the Zulu nation and a tribute to South African heritage.

Following the ceremony, authorities underscored the importance of stringent security at events involving high-profile figures, with local officials reinforcing measures to protect public safety. The woman’s actions remain under investigation as authorities review security protocols and consider potential motives.
