Minnie Dlamini, celebrated media personality and actress, brought glamour and cultural pride to the 30th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) as this year’s host. Known for her stylish flair, Minnie captivated audiences with multiple outfit changes, each crafted by talented local designers. Her looks not only highlighted South African fashion but also paid homage to the country’s rich heritage.
One of the most talked-about outfits of the night was a South African flag-inspired dress. This look was reminiscent of the ensemble worn by American rapper Doja Cat at the Global Citizen Festival earlier this year. Although Doja Cat was not born in South Africa, she has Zulu heritage through her father, Dumisani Dlamini, and frequently embraces her cultural roots.
Dlamini shared her look on Instagram, describing her opening ensemble as a tribute to South Africa. “Proudly South African,” she wrote. “My opening look was inspired by Doja Cat, and my hair was inspired by the iconic #BoomShaka who ruled the 90s with this hairstyle and music,” giving special mention to South African icons Thembi Seete and Lebo Mathosa, members of the legendary ’90s group Boom Shaka.
Through her fashion choices, Minnie Dlamini not only shined as the SAMAs host but also celebrated South African pop culture and music, reminding audiences of the beauty and vibrancy of the country’s creative legacy.
