  • Kganki Mphahlele was expelled from the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) after public criticisms of EFF leader Julius Malema.
  • Mphahlele’s social media posts, including tweets questioning Malema’s leadership and choice of deputy, allegedly violated the EFFSC’s Code of Conduct.
  • Malema’s response on Twitter and Mphahlele’s expulsion highlight ongoing internal debates over democracy and leadership within the party.

The Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) has expelled Kganki Mphahlele, a prominent member, following critical social media posts directed at the EFF’s leadership. Mphahlele’s tweets, which accused EFF leader Julius Malema of trying to impose leadership choices against the will of party branches, sparked significant debate within the organization and were seen as crossing lines defined by the EFFSC Code of Conduct.

Mphahlele’s expulsion letter cited his “public criticisms and alleged defamatory statements” as grounds for disciplinary action, noting that his social media activity violated several sections of the EFFSC’s Revolutionary Discipline policy. One of Mphahlele’s tweets in particular, stating “CIC Julius Malema is not an NPA super delegate; he must not dare try to impose Goodrich Gardee as the EFF Deputy President. We don’t want GG; we want Mbuyiseni Ndlozi as branches,” drew strong reactions from leadership and ultimately led to his removal.

Malema responded with a tweet, “Try me boys,” seen by many as a direct challenge to Mphahlele and others who question the current leadership structure. The incident has sparked further dialogue around the EFF’s internal democracy, freedom of speech, and the consequences of challenging party decisions publicly.
