Ex-ANC Spokesperson and Wife Face Investigation Over Alleged R27 Million Corruption Scheme

A former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson is under investigation alongside his wife in a corruption case involving alleged misappropriations totaling R27 million. The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has raised concerns about a payment of R4.5 million made by the spokesperson’s own company to his wife, which is suspected to be part of a money-laundering operation.

The SIU’s findings have led to suspicions about the legitimacy of the payment, prompting further inquiry into the specific nature of the “services” provided by the wife. When questioned, the ex-spokesperson claimed the funds were for “services my wife rendered” but evaded further explanation, saying, “My wife will answer for herself.”

[WATCH] Why did Pule Mabe’s company pay 4.5 million to his Wife’s company? SIU alleges it was to launder money. I asked Mabe what that money was for, and he said it was for services his wife rendered. I asked what services and he said wife will answer for herself.👇🏿 pic.twitter.com/3vI24pVisP

The couple, along with other individuals implicated, were recently arrested but are out on bail as legal proceedings continue. The case has intensified concerns over corruption within political ranks, particularly within the ANC, which has been under scrutiny for alleged misconduct and governance issues.

The public is following the case closely, demanding transparency and accountability from those implicated. As the investigation progresses, the SIU is expected to examine the former spokesperson’s company more closely, scrutinizing the R4.5 million payment and additional transactions to uncover any broader scheme of corruption.

The former spokesperson’s reluctance to provide further clarification has fueled questions about his business practices and motives. This unfolding case emphasizes South Africa’s ongoing struggle with corruption and the critical need to restore public confidence in political institutions. With legal proceedings underway, the public and media will be watching closely to see how the couple justifies their actions.
