Floyd Shivambu Subtly Criticizes Julius Malema at MK Party Gala, Calls for End to Divisive Politics

In a notable move that underscored rising tensions within South Africa’s political circles, MK Party National Organiser Floyd Shivambu appeared to take a veiled jab at his former ally, Julius Malema, during a gala dinner hosted by the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP). Without directly naming Malema, Shivambu cautioned against the practice of labeling political opponents, a tactic frequently employed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader.

Speaking to an audience in Johannesburg, Shivambu stressed the value of true leadership, emphasizing that it’s “not about making loud insults or derogatory remarks.” His comments seemingly referenced Malema’s tendency to publicly denounce rivals as corrupt or treacherous. This critique comes as the MK Party seeks to position itself as a viable alternative in the upcoming 2024 general elections, aiming to attract disillusioned voters from both the EFF and the ANC.

The gala dinner saw calls from MKP leaders for unity and an end to divisive politics, with Shivambu’s comments sparking speculation about a growing rift between him and Malema. The two were once close political allies, but Shivambu’s departure from the EFF to join the MK Party has signaled a shift in South Africa’s political dynamics.

As the MK Party gains traction, Shivambu’s increasing prominence suggests he may play a significant role in shaping the country’s future political direction, particularly as voters seek alternatives to the current major parties.
