Carl Niehaus Criticizes Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s Resignation from EFF, Calls Decision ‘Deeply Disappointing’

Carl Niehaus, a prominent member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has voiced his disappointment over former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s unexpected resignation from the party. In a public statement, Niehaus criticized Mkhwebane’s decision, calling it “misguided” and expressing his discontent.

“This is a very wrong decision. I am deeply disappointed!” Niehaus stated, breaking his silence on Mkhwebane’s departure. He had been a vocal advocate of Mkhwebane’s involvement in the EFF, seeing her as a valuable asset in the party’s mission to combat corruption and hold government accountable.

Mkhwebane, who joined the EFF earlier this year following her controversial suspension and impeachment as Public Protector, was viewed as a potential boost to the party’s platform, particularly in its stance against state capture and government corruption. Her legal battles and resilience during her time in office resonated with many in the EFF, as the party continues to challenge the ANC-led government.

Her sudden resignation, however, has sparked internal debates within the EFF. While some have accepted her decision, others, like Niehaus, are concerned about its potential negative impact on the party’s momentum, especially with next year’s general elections looming.

Niehaus, in his statement, reiterated his belief in Mkhwebane’s potential to effect change within the EFF and questioned her reasons for leaving. “I expected more from her. She had the opportunity to make a real difference within the EFF, and this decision undermines everything we hoped to achieve together,” he lamented.

Although Mkhwebane has not publicly explained her reasons for resigning, speculation has surfaced about possible internal divisions within the EFF and dissatisfaction with her role in the party’s future. Niehaus’s comments hint at broader tensions within the EFF, with some party members increasingly critical of leadership and its direction under Julius Malema.

The EFF has yet to release an official statement regarding Mkhwebane’s resignation, but Niehaus’s remarks offer a glimpse into the growing discontent within the party’s ranks over high-profile departures.
