ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula took to X to reaffirm the ANC’s leadership within the Government of National Unity (GNU), emphasizing that the administration operates under principles enshrined in the South African Constitution, the Freedom Charter, and the ANC’s 2024 Election Manifesto. According to Mbalula, this foundational framework has been essential in maintaining the party’s stable governance and addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.

Mbalula’s post comes at a time when the GNU is under increasing scrutiny from both opposition parties and the general public. With mounting challenges, many are closely watching the government’s progress in fulfilling its promises. In response, Mbalula stressed the ANC’s dual role as both a political leader and a servant of the people, urging party members and leaders to uphold the values of humility, integrity, and competence in their actions.

He further explained that the guiding principles of the GNU align with the ANC’s core values, ensuring that the government prioritizes equity, justice, and development for all South Africans. Mbalula reminded his audience that the Freedom Charter has long served as a cornerstone for the ANC’s policies, driving the party’s commitment to equality, freedom, and dignity for every citizen.

Additionally, Mbalula called on ANC members to avoid complacency. He urged them to act with professionalism and dedication in addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the country. “The task for ANC members is not only to lead but to ensure they are worthy of that leadership by delivering results for the people,” he wrote.

As South Africa approaches the 2024 elections, Mbalula’s message reinforces the ANC’s commitment to leading the GNU in line with values drawn from its historic documents, ensuring the party continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s future.
