More than two hundred unemployed youths from Soweto marched to the Joburg mayor’s office to submit their CVs today.
This action was spurred by Mayor Dada Morero’s proposal at the ANC Gauteng Lekgotla to consider hiring foreign nationals in the Johannesburg Metro police department.
The frustrated youth rejected claims of xenophobia and instead sought to remind the mayor and government officials of the high number of jobless individuals. Carrying their CVs, they filled the streets of Braamfontein and placed their documents into three large boxes outside the mayor’s office.
While Mayor Morero was unavailable to receive the CVs in person, his chief of staff, Tsumbo Nephawe, accepted them on his behalf.
Morero later issued an apology for his proposal and informed the media that there are currently no job openings at the JMPD and no plans to advertise any positions.
