Siphiwe Mkhonza, the esteemed former Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic defender, and renowned TV analyst, has passed away at the age of 45. Affectionately known as ‘Dr Mnandi’ at his current employer, SABC, Mkhonza battled a long-standing kidney infection, ultimately succumbing to the illness at his home in Roodepoort.

Survived by his children, father Joseph ‘Skheshnewe Kheshe’ Mkhonza, mother Phindile Mkhonza, and brother, Mkhonza leaves behind a legacy cherished by football enthusiasts and colleagues alike. His distinguished career spanned clubs like Ria Stars, Lamontville Golden Arrows, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United, AmaZulu, and Black Leopards before transitioning to a role as an analyst on SABC following his playing days.

Tributes pour in for the affable center-back, with former colleagues and friends mourning his loss. Duane Dell’Oca, former SuperSport TV commentator, recalls Mkhonza’s joyful spirit and passion for life, while Christopher Bongo fondly remembers their shared moments and bids farewell to a beloved friend and colleague. Mkhonza’s impact transcended the football pitch, leaving behind a legacy of camaraderie and professionalism.
