Four suspects arrested following a robbery at Spar and shootout with security

On Monday, 5 February 2024, four armed suspects robbed staff members at Superspar in Twincity Complex of an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes at gunpoint. Security responded to the robbery and a shootout ensued resulting in one security officer being injured.

The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle shortly after the incident, however, they were intercepted by police along R36 road outside Ohrigstad. Two unlicensed firearms and cigarettes stolen during the robbery were recovered from their possession.

Four suspects were arrested and detained in jail and will soon appear before Praktiseer magistrate’s court to face charges of business robbery and attempted murder, investigation is ongoing and more arrests are imminent.

The injured security guard is receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
