Patrick Seleka, a well-known actor in South Africa, may have jeopardised his profession after bringing in allegations of abuse against his wife. This incident is not unusual, as we have witnessed multiple celebrities lose everything they have worked for due to identical actions.

In South Africa, people, especially on social media, do not condone gender-based violence. Once someone is found guilty, they go the extra mile to ensure that they pay for their actions.

As conversations continue about how to fight the drift of intimate partner violence in the country, tensions have escalated following his shocking confession.

The renowned actor took to social media to share a video in which he admitted to being primarily responsible for the breakdown of his marriage to Mmabaneng.

In the video, he stated, “It all started at the beginning of our marriage when I wasn’t a good person… I was just very, very bad to her, to the point that when we started, she ended up losing her job.”

He conveyed guilt for his actions, admitting that he continues to mistreat his wife. He admitted, “The one thing that’s so sad is that I keep doing it to her. I am not fixing; I am only making things worse.”

The seriousness of these allegations cannot be understated, particularly given the widespread condemnation of GBV in South Africa.

The public’s response on social media has been swift and damning, with many calling for justice and accountability.

The entertainment industry, where he has built his career, has zero tolerance for such behavior. In recent years, several prominent figures have seen their careers come crashing down due to similar acts. This raises serious concerns about the future of his professional life.

South Africa is currently engaged in crucial discussions around gender-based violence, and public figures like him must set a positive example. His acts and admissions will certainly have severe impacts, both personally and professionally.

As the case grows, it remains to be seen how he will deal with the allegations and try to make amends. He must take the essential measures towards mending and growth while also demonstrating genuine remorse and commitment to change.
