Lymphedema is a chronic medical condition that causes persistent swelling, typically in the arms or legs. This condition occurs when the lymphatic system, responsible for fluid balance and immune function, becomes compromised. Primary lymphedema is rare and usually arises from genetic factors, while secondary lymphedema is more common and often results from damage to lymph nodes or vessels.

One of the most common causes of secondary lymphedema is cancer treatment. Surgery or radiation therapy for cancer can disrupt the lymphatic system, leading to fluid buildup. Infections, trauma, and obesity can also contribute to its development.

Early detection and prompt intervention are essential in managing lymphedema effectively. Individuals at risk, such as cancer survivors, should be educated about the signs and symptoms, empowering them to seek timely medical assistance. By addressing lymphedema proactively, individuals can enhance their quality of life and minimize its impact on daily activities.

A beautiful lady named Mimo Mokgosi recently shared a touching story about her journey of living with a with lymphedema. Miss Mokgosi left her Twitter followers inspired and moved by her confidence.

02/09/15 I did a lymphoscintigraphy
which took 4 hours. The test came back positive but I still came out the nuclear department with a smile and said "Entse ele Modimo today, tomorrow and always" today marks 8years living with Lymphadema.
