Mamelodi Sundowns set to release more players

Reigning DStv Premiership champion Mamelodi Sundowns are on a mission to conquer the league yet again.

They have already made their intentions clear on the transfer market and they have also released a few names.

No fewer that seven players have departed Masandawana and these include Lesedi Kapinga and Andile Jali.

Polokwane City are still pushing to secure the services of Gift Motupa.

The Mamelodi Sundowns forward, who is understood to have also attracted attention from Chippa United, is not guaranteed game-time in the coming season at Chloorkop and the club is open to letting him get more opportunities elsewhere.

The ex-Baroka FC man has struggled with competition and injuries since making a move to the Brazilians from Bidvest Wits three seasons ago and it appears he will get to make a move before the current transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

The Tshwane giants have roped in Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Thapelo Maseko to aid their already star-studded attack for the new season, making Motupa’s chances of a regular run even slimmer.

While the big forward does not necessarily play in the same position as these duo, Downs’ front three system means that he has less chances of playing regularly, especially with Peter Shalulile seen as the main man for up front.

Rise and Shine, meanwhile, are busy behind the scenes to put together a formidable squad. Since gaining promotion in mid-May, the club has not made any player announcements, though are expected to do so soon, with the new campaign looming large on the horizon.

Motupa is a definite target for the Limpopo-based side, as is former

Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho, as previously reported by the Siya crew. However, the latter has also been offered to Golden Arrows.
