On Saturday, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle, a white Hyundai Tucson with GP registration numbers, had been stolen from a well-known pub in Westdene.

The complainant, Ms. Nomsa Ndlovu, alleged that her bag had been stolen while she was inside the pub. She had been sitting at the bar when two African females approached her and started talking to her. They asked her about her job and where she lived. Ms. Ndlovu was distracted by their conversation, and she did not notice when another person took her handbag, which contained the car keys.

The two African females left the pub with the other person, and Ms. Ndlovu realized that her bag was missing. She immediately reported the theft to the SAPS. Within six hours of the vehicle being reported stolen, members of the SAPS, working with a tracking company, located the vehicle parked in a tavern’s yard in Mangaung.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene. Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects, including the two females who had distracted Ms. Ndlovu. The complainant’s personal belongings were also recovered from the vehicle. The five suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
