DONE Deal: 2022 Champions League Winners ‘Snap up’ Kaizer Chiefs’ Talismanic Figure

Kaizer Chiefs should consider themselves quite fortunate in their ambitions to offload some of the players deemed surplus to requirements by new coach Molefi Ntseki, with one such player attracting interest from one of the biggest clubs in world football.

When Chiefs placed Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana on a transfer list after his single season in Naturena, they certainly did not expect 2022 CAF champions league winners Wydad Casablanca to be one of the clubs vying for his signature.

However, that is the case, as the two clubs have agreed a deal that will see him move to Morocco’s Botola League.

According to IDiski Times, Chiefs have accepted the offer, which is currently undisclosed but is expected to be substantial.

Wydad’s pursuit of Caleb is thought to have been necessitated by the likely departure of their talisman Bouly Junior Sambou, who is on the radar of a slew of Turkish clubs; as a result, they are planning ahead of time to ensure Caleb joins them before they compete in the King Salman Cup in Saudi Arabia in a few days.

Although Caleb’s time at Chiefs was cut short barely a year after he came, he will be remembered as the team’s best striker during the 2022-23 season, when the club struggled horribly in front of goal, he contributed eight goals in 21 appearances for Chiefs in all competitions.

He had started well but deteriorated as the season progressed, eventually losing his spot in the team to Christian Saile.

It’s also worth noting that Chiefs signed him on a Bosman deal (free transfer) because he had to go through trials before signing, so it’s a brilliant bit of business on their part to even command a transfer fee for his services.
