Kaizer Chiefs goes back on its word shortly after Zwane’s demotion

Over the past few weeks, no fanbase has gone through more emotional rollercoaster; than that of Kaizer Chiefs.

Ever since the news broke out that coach Arthur Zwane had been demoted to make way for Molefi Ntseki, the excitement amongst the fans has somewhat dissipated; with them believing that it can only go further downside from where Mangethe left off.

Recently the fans have reviewed the team’s transfer business, and it seems that the board is going back on a notion that saw fans getting behind Arthur Zwane at the beginning of last season.

Initially when Mangethe was appointed, a mandate for a rebuild was presented to him. This saw him recruiting young players with potential, and shipping out dead wood. It was a long term project, in order for the team to turn their fortunes around; after the current long streak of 8+ years without silverware. However, ever since Ntseki has been appointment; that project has been discarded entirely- and that reflects on the team’s transfer business:

  • Thatayaone Ditlhokwe (24) – CB, LB
  • Edson Castillo (29) DM, CM, CAM
  • Mduduzi Mdantsane (28) CAM, CM
  • Given Msimango (26) – CB
  • Pule Mmodi (30) LW, RW
  • Ranga Chivaviro (30) ST

All this reflects that the team is looking for a quick solution. In the short term it might be effective, but PSL players have proved to struggled with longevity. Meaning that in the next 3 years it will ultimately lead them back to when Coach Arthur Zwane was demoted.

Nabi has recently broke his silence and told the media that the reason being that the deal fell through, was because Amakhosi did not want to terminate Arthur Zwane as it would be “expensive”. Most fans are angry that if the team did not want to terminate him, they could have given him one more season to prove himself and his project. At the moment he is demoted and his project shelved; meaning a wasted season and signings.
