RIP: SAPS border cop found dead after his wife ganged up with alleged foreign hitmen to end him

A 40-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday, June 23, 2023, by Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation in connection with the murder of Sergeant Hlatshwayo, who was stationed at Mahamba border posts.

According to reports, Sergeant Hlatshwayo was shot at his home in Piet Retief. He was able to call his friend, who rushed him to the local hospital, where he was later transferred to Trichardt Medi-Clinic for further medical treatment. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police investigation into the murder revealed that the sergeant was shot multiple times in the chest. The motive for the murder is still unknown, but the police are investigating whether it was related to the sergeant’s work as a police officer.

Three suspects, including the late sergeant’s wife, were later arrested by Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation. The suspect was then traced and found at Ermelo hospital, where he was admitted with gunshot wounds. He was arrested and placed under police guard. His cellphone was seized for further investigation, and he is expected to appear in court once he has recovered.
