While Cyril Ramaphosa is busy trying to settle the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Former African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule spent a relaxing Father’s Day in Johannesburg on Sunday, but his actions have been met with criticism from some quarters.

According to reports, Magashule visited the Life Restoration Christian Center in Ekurhuleni, East Rand, where he spent time with children and attended a church service. He also met with former president Thabo Mbeki in Johannesburg on Saturday. Some have criticized Magashule for using his Father’s Day activities as a publicity stunt. They argue that he is trying to portray himself as a good father and a religious man in order to win public sympathy.

Meanwhile, others have defended Magashule, saying that he is simply trying to enjoy his Father’s Day and that he is not trying to make a political statement. It is unclear what Magashule’s intentions were in spending his Father’s Day in Johannesburg. However, his actions have certainly sparked a debate about his character and his motives.

His expulsion has sparked protests in the Free State province, where Magashule is a popular figure. Some ANC members have burnt their party regalia in protest, and others have threatened to resign from the party. It has become clear that Magashule’s explosion has further divided the ANC, which is already facing challenges ahead of the 2024 general elections. The party is also facing increasing competition from opposition parties, such as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
