Expelled ANC member Carl Niehaus has launched a scathing attack, vowing that his new political movement, the African Radical Economic Transformation Alliance (ARETA), will ensure that “scumbags” within the ruling party are consigned to the “garbage bin of history.” Niehaus made these derogatory remarks on Twitter following reports of three ANC members being investigated by the police for an alleged bribery case.
Pemmy Majodina, Qubudile Dyantyi, and Tina Joemat-Pettersson have been accused of attempting to extort funds from suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane in order to influence an inquiry into her fitness to hold office. Niehaus labeled the ANC as “corrupt and rotten to the core” and emphasized that ARETA would ensure these individuals meet their deserved fate.
When asked if the ANC could be repaired, Niehaus firmly stated that it was beyond redemption, claiming that it is dead and irreparable. ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula responded to the allegations, asserting that the party would take action if they are proven true. Mbalula expressed skepticism about the claims and indicated that the ANC would not hesitate to act if any members were implicated. He also expressed concern about the potential damage these allegations could inflict on the party’s reputation.
