In the Nedbank Cup final between Sekhukhune united fc and Pirates, Sekhukhune coach Truter’s decision-making came under scrutiny once again. One particular move stood out as a major misjudgment, as he substituted Elias Mokwana, who had been posing a constant threat to Pirates’ defense. This article delves into the repercussions of Truter’s decision and highlights an incident involving Letsoalo and Lorch that raises questions about fair play and sportsmanship.

Mokwana had been consistently bypassing the Pirates’ defense, challenging them at many turns. His skill and agility gave the opposing defenders a run for their money. Yet, against all odds, Truter decided to take him out of the game, potentially hampering Mokwana’s attacking prowess.

The Controversial Incident:

During the match, an incident occurred where Letsoalo was lying down in the penalty area. the referee did not blow the whistle, Letsoalo attempted to touch the ball. In a surprising turn of events, Lorch rolled the ball against Letsoalo’s hand, resulting in a penalty. This incident raises questions about fair play, as traditionally, opponents tend to stop play when a player is seriously injured. However, Letsoalo did not appear to be in any pain, challenging the spirit of fair play.

Tso Vilakazi’s Perspective:

Tso Vilakazi, a respected football analyst, believes that players should continue playing until the whistle has been blown. He argues that hitting a player with the ball while he is lying down is considered a foul.

Tso emphasizes that if he were in Lorch’s position, he would have found an alternative way, to navigate around Letsoalo rather than resorting to such actions.

Lorch’s Smart Play:

Tso acknowledges Lorch’s experience and describes his actions as smart in the given situation. By displaying the ball to Letsoalo, Lorch exploited the technicalities of the game. However, Tso implies that this clever move may have compromised the principles of fair play, which form the foundation of the sport.

I was not going to hit the player with the ball while he is down he said.
