The spokesperson of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Vincent Magwenya has earlier today announced that the President is no longer challenging the Section 89 report. His announcement seems to be a sweet message to the ears of opposition leaders.
The President and founder of the United Democratic Movement, Bantu Holomisa, has responded to the announcement. Holomisa is requesting the NPA boss, advocate Shamila Batohi to charge President Ramaphosa. He issued a statement today indicating that his party welcomes Ramaphosa’s decision.
“The UDM welcomes the announcement made on behalf of President Ramaphosa that he will no longer be challenging the report of the Panel on Phala Phala Farm Gate. We call on Adv Batohi to charge him in terms of PRECCA, by 1 June 2023, as the President has a case to answer.” Holomisa said.
It is not yet clear whether the NPA has the rights to charge the President based on the report. However, opposition parties are most likely to use whatever opportunity they get to discredit the president.
Opposition parties will react in so many ways to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision. What remains unknown is the actual decision that could be done to hold the President accountable.
