In a shocking turn of events, AfriForum, a South African lobby group, has slammed the Hawks investigative unit with an ultimatum. They demand an update on the long-drawn investigation into corruption allegations against Fikile Mbalula, the secretary-general of the ruling African National Congress (ANC).

Brace yourselves for a riveting tale filled with conspiracy and deception! Mbalula stands accused of accepting a lavish family vacation to Dubai, partially funded by Sedgars Sport, a company that conveniently supplies sports uniforms for South African Olympic athletes and officials. How convenient, right?

The saga began back in 2018 when the Public Protector’s report unearthed the shocking truth that Sedgars Sport had footed nearly half the bill amounting to a staggering R680,000 ($47,700). Wait, it gets juicier!

The report even recommended investigating whether the funds used for this extravagant getaway were the ill-gotten gains of money laundering. However, hold onto your hats, because it seems that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) turned a blind eye to this directive, conveniently ignoring its duty to act upon such a damning revelation.

Enter AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit, descending upon the scene with righteous fury. They have now issued an ultimatum to the sluggish Hawks, demanding an update on their painstakingly slow investigation before the month’s end. Failure to comply will result in the lobby group unleashing the full force of the law.

Barry Bateman, a spokesperson for AfriForum, has expressed incredulity at the situation, wondering aloud why it has taken numerous law enforcement agencies an eternity to wrap up such a seemingly straightforward case. Time is ticking, and the Hawks are yet to respond to this electrifying ultimatum.

Prepare yourselves for an epic showdown, a battle against the corrupt forces that lurk within the halls of power. Will justice prevail, or will the strings of conspiracy and bias tighten their grip on the truth? Only time will tell as this gripping saga unfolds before our very eyes. Stay tuned, folks, for a rollercoaster ride that will leave you questioning the very foundations of our society.
