The State of the Nation Address is set to take place tomorrow (09 February 2023) and many South Africans are waiting to hear what the president will say. Sadly we don’t know yet whether he will talk about actual changes the government has made to help South Africans or make empty promises but here are three things we think he may speak about.

Loadshedding :

Loadshedding is something that has affected South Africans for so long, that it has become a normal part of our lives, However that doesn’t mean we don’t want it gone. Hopefully tomorrow the president gives us information on how he plans to end loadshedding in South Africa.

National State of Disaster :

News of possibly declaring a national State of disaster have been circulating for a while now, however it hasn’t happened yet. If it is happening, I believe that there is no time better than at a state of the Nation address, to inform us. Other helpful information for the president to provide could be how a National State of Disaster would affect average South Africans as well as the economy.

Basic Income Grant :

There are a large number of South Africans who are asking for a basic income grant, one that would help people who are living in poverty survive and feed their families. However up until now all we have is conjecture. So announcing a basic income grant at the address tomorrow could both help South Africans as well as look good for the president.

There is the real possibility that the president does not speak about any of these things tomorrow. However I, like many other South Africans, am hoping he does.
