Two families are mourning after two separate killings claimed the lives of a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman within hours of each other.
According to information provided by relatives and police, the first tragedy occurred at around 10:45pm in Nerina Close, where 36-year-old Clinton Browers was fatally shot.
Police said Clinton had been drinking when an unknown person allegedly opened fire. He reportedly attempted to get up and run after being shot but collapsed and died at the scene.
Clinton’s family claims he was shot seven times.
His father said the family heard gunshots from their home but only discovered later that Clinton had been the victim.
The family also claimed that Clinton had received threats approximately two to three weeks before his death.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the motive. Investigators are also considering whether the killing could be linked to gang activity.
Clinton leaves behind two children, aged 12 and five.
However, the tragedy took another devastating turn several hours later.
At approximately 6:30am, 28-year-old Zakira Christians was found dead in an open field next to Clover Crescent.
According to relatives, Zakira had reportedly been travelling to her boyfriend to inform him that his brother, Clinton, had been shot dead.
She never reached her destination.
Her family said Zakira suffered a single stab wound to the chest.
Police confirmed that a woman was found at the scene with a stab wound and was declared dead. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, and authorities have not yet established who was responsible or what led to the fatal attack.
Zakira leaves behind a nine-year-old son.
The two deaths have left both families dealing with separate tragedies that occurred within a matter of hours.
Clinton’s family is now mourning a father of two, while Zakira’s loved ones are grieving a mother whose life was cut short as she was reportedly making her way to deliver devastating news to her boyfriend.
Police investigations into both incidents are continuing. At this stage, there is no confirmed indication that the two killings were connected, and any possible link would need to be established through the investigations.
The deaths have left three children without a parent and communities grappling with yet another pair of violent incidents.
Authorities are expected to appeal for information from anyone who may have witnessed either incident or knows anything that could assist investigators.
