Just weeks before his death, the parents of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams shared fond memories of his early passion for football in a television interview.
Candice and Juanito Adams spoke about the childhood moments, sacrifices and faith that helped shape their son into one of South Africa’s most promising players. Adams passed away on 11 July at the age of 25.
In the interview, Candice recalled that Jayden’s love for the game began when he was only three years old. She said he would kick anything he could find around the house, even potatoes, and that his passion for football quickly became part of his daily life.
Juanito said his son’s natural talent was clear from a very young age and that every success Jayden achieved came through hard work, discipline and sacrifice. Candice added that the family relied on prayer during tough times and that watching him play for the national team brought her tears of joy.
The Western Cape police have opened an inquest after Adams’ body was found at a property in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, on Saturday. Police say they are investigating the circumstances of his death.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the country, with teammates, clubs and supporters remembering not only his skill on the field but also the humility and character his parents said defined him throughout his life.
