Jacob Zuma has inflamed political tensions further by accusing the ruling African National Congress of abandoning Black South Africans, following his severe criticism of the party. His words have further deepened the political schism in South Africa, which was already there before he said them.

The current head of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, Zuma, has said that the African National Congress (ANC) has abandoned the core principles that distinguished it during the liberation era. He argues that the party that claimed to speak for the downtrodden has failed to protect the very communities who helped bring it to power.

His words come as political divisions in South Africa are widening, with once-allies taking opposite positions in ideological and electoral battles. Black South Africans, especially those living in economically disadvantaged areas where unemployment, inequality, and inadequate access to basic amenities are pervasive, were Zuma’s primary targets of criticism.

He argued that many people still have not fully received the benefits promised during the independence fight. He did not propose any new policies, but his speech was mostly about how unhappy he is with the ANC’s current course of leadership.

The African National Congress (ANC), which has controlled South Africa since apartheid’s end in 1994, has been under fire in recent years for failings in service delivery, corruption accusations, and internal factional disputes. Given Zuma’s long and controversial history inside the party he is now condemning, his latest remarks have only served to heighten the already present political tensions.

The political observers predict that Zuma’s remarks would hit home with certain people who feel left out by the economy’s progress. But some see his comments as part of a rising political animosity, especially as the MK Party tries to carve out a niche for itself in South Africa’s political scene.

Party members have previously responded to comparable accusations by claiming the ANC is working to address long-standing economic and social disparities through a number of programs. Also highlighted are the legacies of apartheid that, according to them, are still stumbling blocks to progress today.

Even with the response and counterarguments, Zuma’s remarks have rekindled the discussion about whether the South African liberation movement has stuck to its original values or strayed from them in the face of modern administration.

Political tensions are expected to intensify, leading analysts to believe that the ANC and the MK Party will have more meetings in the coming weeks, especially as they prepare for upcoming legislative battles.
