Former Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba is currently facing significant health challenges after being diagnosed with both prostate cancer and tuberculosis (TB).

According to his twin children, Mashaba’s condition has deteriorated considerably over the last two years. Speaking during an emotional interview with media personality Andile Ncube on the #SNAWA show, they revealed that their father no longer has medical aid coverage and is relying solely on South Africa’s public healthcare system. Despite ongoing treatment, his health continues to worsen, raising concerns among family members and supporters.

Mashaba remains one of South Africa’s most respected football figures. Widely regarded as the most successful coach in Bafana Bafana’s history based on statistics, he guided the national team through several memorable victories and milestones. His influence on South African football has earned him admiration from fans, players, and colleagues alike.

The family is also facing mounting financial pressure due to the costs associated with long-term medical care. Without access to private healthcare, they depend on public medical facilities while managing complex illnesses such as cancer and TB. His children have appealed for support as they navigate this difficult period.

The news has sparked sympathy throughout the football community, with many supporters being encouraged to offer assistance, encouragement, or donations to help the family. Mashaba’s legacy extends beyond results on the field, as he inspired generations of footballers and helped raise South Africa’s profile internationally.

As the legendary coach continues his fight against illness, the football fraternity and the wider public are being urged to unite in support of him and his family during this challenging chapter of their lives.
