Kaizer Chiefs are well represented at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with fans showing their support for the club from afar.

Amakhosi have built their brand beyond South African borders and have fans all over the world. At the New York Fan Park, as Bafana Bafana prepared to take on Mexico at Estadio Azteca, Chiefs fans held the club’s flag with pride.

It is rare to find football fans displaying affection for their clubs at a World Cup, as most fans wear national team attire. However, the Chiefs support base in the United States did otherwise, which is expected to elevate the club’s brand.

Kaizer Chiefs have US ties dating back to the late 1960s when chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung played for Atlanta Chiefs. He was soon followed by the late Ace Ntsoelengoe, who played for Miami Toros. Chiefs’ ties with the US continued through the 1990s when midfield icon Doctor Khumalo joined Columbus Crew from the Soweto giants in 1996.

The last Chiefs player to move to the US was Njabulo Blom, who signed for St Louis City but later moved to Vietnam and was released.
